The parade begins at 2 p.m. at the Wells Fargo parking lot at Champions Forest Drive and FM 1960 , and ends at The Concert Pub North at the corner of FM 1960 and Kuykendahl. To prepare for the big event, the road will officially close at 1 p.m., and if all goes as planned, completely reopen around 5 p.m.
AWARDS: Floats will be judged based on originality, creativity, appearance, craftsmanship, crowd appeal & spirit. Awards will be given in the following categories:
- Youth: 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place
- Adult: 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place
- Spirit of St. Patrick's Day - Individual
- Spirit of St. Patrick's Day - Corporate
ATTENDEES: Revelers should make their way to the 3 .5-mile parade route as early as possible - about 60,000 to 80,000 are expected.
Intersections at either end of the parade route - Champion Forest Drive and Kuykendahl Road - will remain open, but officers and signs will direct traffic away from the closed section of FM 1960 . Police will open up intersections after the parade moves through and that part of the route is clear. Still, large sections of FM 1960 will be closed for the bulk of the four-hour period so it is wise to use detour routes during that time.
The primary detour route lies north of FM 1960 . Signs and police officers will direct motorists traveling west on FM 1960 to turn north on Kuykendahl Road to Louetta Road, and west on Louetta to Champion Forest Drive, or Cutten Road, which both run south to FM 1960 near the Champions and Willowbrook Mall areas.
Motorists traveling east on FM 1960 will be diverted to the north at Cutten Road, and told to follow the same route in reverse to Kuykendahl Road.
Some information for PARTICIPANTS to help make our parade a fun and safe event for everyone...
All children participating in the parade should arrive in one group and be supervised by an adult.
Please leave unattended vehicles in designated areas only.
Float heights must clear power lines and stop lights.
Absolutely NO ONE is permitted to get off a float or out of a vehicle during the parade!
All entries must stay and remain within designated route/lane, including walkers, bikes, carts, etc.
All candy (wrapped), beads, or other approved material should be thrown away from spectators and out of the lanes of traffic. The route is a long one, so save your goodies for the entire route of the parade.
Use the provided garbage bags to "stash your trash" so we keep 1960 clean.
There will be no alcoholic beverage consumed by participants during the set up or actual parade.
It’s a long walk, so have provisions of water and a "back up" ability to ride on a vehicle or float in case you tire or cannot finish the walk. Do not plan to intermittently walk and ride.
